ONLY USE SALT IF A FREEZER IS UNAVAILABLE! ***remember, salt is used to melt ice so putting salt on a hide before freezing it inhibits freezing! If you plan on using salt for preservation, contact me first OR research proper salting methods.
When freezing your hide, roll it from the hind end forward so the head is out and freezes first.
Only attempt caping the head if you are 100% sure of your ability - otherwise leave it to the taxidermist!
***Fellow hunters: If you harvest a big game animal that is mature and are not keeping the cape (from behind the front shoulders forward), don't let it go to waste, please contact us HERE!
DEER
"Even though the video above is demonstrating with a whitetail deer, these same procedures could be used for an elk, antelope, mule deer, or any other antlered game."
The following taxidermist has a great video put together to show you how to cape a deer for a full shoulder mount. If you are still unsure about the process after watching this, please contact me HERE
